A straight razor is the quintessential model of barbershop razors, which many people return to in their quest for the best and closest shave. You may be familiar with straight razors under names such as “shaving knife” or “straight razor.”

A straight razor has a fixed blade with a single edge. You simply need to run the razor over your stubble once to achieve a close and smooth shave. Many people experience far less irritation when using a sharp straight razor. It takes a little practice to use a straight razor, but once you’ve mastered it, you’ll never go back to a multi-blade razor.

The blade on a straight razor cannot be replaced but does require a bit of work and care. It’s important to clean the razor after every shave and to sharpen it with a leather strop and sharpening paste when needed. This will prevent the blade from becoming dull.
