From Razor selection to step-by-step instructions, we've got you covered so you can get the best out of your shaving routine. Finally, we'll give you our recommendations for choosing products for a bald head. We can already reveal that you should probably consider looking at products from Better Be Bold.
First things first: Choose your fighter
When it comes to head shaving, the choice of tool is crucial to the result! Luckily, we at Proshave have created this overview to help you navigate the jungle of finding the best tool. Just read along here:
Instead, we recommend one of the following solutions:
The easiest solution for many is a multi-blade scraper. These typically have a flexible head that follows the contours of the scalp and minimizes the risk of damage. A multi-blade scraper with 3-6 blades is therefore an excellent choice.
And don't worry - you don't have to invest in those expensive neon-colored Razors from the supermarket.
The Spanish manufacturer LEA for example, offers a great multi-blade scraper with a flexible head that gives a close shave at a reasonable price. That's a very good starting point for a great head shave!
Of course, we've also gathered our large selection of quality products for you right here:
Many of our customers are now using a Safety Razor for head shaving - and with great success. That said, it takes a little more getting used to and technique, as the head of a Safety Razor doesn't have any flex and therefore isn't quite as forgiving as a multi-blade Razor. It's important to let the weight of the Razor do the work, so you simply pull the Razor across the scalp and don't push. The first few times it's important to take it easy and get to know your scalp; notice if there are any small bumps or birthmarks you need to pay special attention to. Find the right angle on the Razor and start shaving slowly.
Choose a Razor that has a good general and medium aggressiveness, like e.g. a Mühle R 89. And otherwise we would definitely recommend you to look towards Razors from Canadian Henson Shavingwhich are extra gentle and some of our favorites for head shaving.
If you want to be able to control the aggressiveness of the Razor yourself, you can get a Adjustable Safety Razor and set it to the mildest setting to start and then adjust it to the setting that best suits you and your scalp.
Similarly, it's important to find the blade that best suits you and your skin. This may require you to experiment with different blades. If you ask 10 different users, you're likely to get 8 different answers. This is because skin, hair growth and sensitivity differ greatly - and what's the perfect combination for one user may not be the same for you. We have created our own Razor Blades that are exactly how we think a Razor Blade should be: The magazine is called Proshave Platinum.
A single-edge Razor is an excellent choice for head shaving - especially for those looking for a close and precise shave. What separates a single-edge Razor from a multi-blade razor is the Razor Blades. It uses only half a DE blade, making it both economical and efficient.
American Leaf Shave is behind it The Leaf Razor. The Leaf Razor has a flexible razor head, so you don't have to learn how to shave all over again as it's similar to the multi-blade razor you might be used to. Instead of the very expensive Razor Blades normally used in multi-blade razors, this version is made for interchangeable half blades (i.e. half Doube Edge Blades) that cost less than £1 each. This makes it extremely cheap to use and you can replace the blades with a clear conscience when they need replacing.
The flexible shaving head follows the contours of the scalp for a close and comfortable head shave without irritation.
Leaf Razor can be used with 1, 2 or 3 blades inserted, depending on preference, skin type and how gentle/aggressive you want your shave to be.
By using a single-edge Razor, you can achieve a close and comfortable shave of the head while reducing the risk of irritation and ingrown hairs. It's an ideal solution for those who want to combine traditional craftsmanship with modern convenience.
Besides The Leaf Razor as an obvious option, we have also collected a range of other single edge razors, which you can see the selection of here:
You can also use a Trimmer for head shaving.
The best for the job is Wahls Hi-Viz Trimmerfor ultimate precision and performance. It's an ultra pro Trimmer that is made for professionals but can also be used at home in the bathroom.
Hi-Viz is perfect for those who need to get to grips with trimming the head, beard, edges or lines. Unlike Electric Shavers, which are extremely hard on the skin on the head, a Trimmer is much gentler and can therefore be used for edges and other fine work.
We particularly recommend Hi-Wiz, but have also collected a number of others if you are curious about the selection:
