Proper oily hair care starts with a good shampoo (and maybe conditioner) routine. Regular hair care significantly improves oily scalp and oily hair. Make sure to choose a mild shampoo or a specialized shampoo for oily hair. Shampoos with herbal extracts can also alleviate oily hair. Rosemary, chamomile, nettle and sage are classic herbal remedies for oily hair that inhibit excessive sebum production and calm the scalp.

Avoid washing your hair every day
A good hair wash feels nice because it gets rid of the oily scalp - but it's only temporary. If you wash your hair too often, your hair follicles get used to producing more sebum and oil. Just wash your hair 2-3 times a week.

Only moisturize the ends
Even if your hair is oily near the roots, the ends can still be dry. Therefore, only use your conditioner, hair treatment or leave-in conditioner at the ends of your hair (not near the scalp). This prevents the hair from weighing down and also adds more body and moisture.

Avoid oils
Stay away from the greasiest hair products such as hair oil and wax and try styling with hairspray and mousse instead. If your ends are dry, you can use just a small amount of product on the outer tips.
