Guide to which Razor Blades to choose

Get answers to frequently asked questions when it comes to choosing Razor Blades

We often get questions about which Razor Blades to choose for your new Safety Razor. Many have searched the web and read about the sharpest blades, which blades are less sharp, which ones you shouldn't use as a beginner, etc. Fortunately, it's not rocket science, even though some people try to make it out to be.

Basically, beards, beard growth, skin and skin sensitivity differ greatly. Similarly, there are differences in how manufacturers make their Razor Blades, how the blades are sharpened, how or with what they are coated (given a protective coating) etc. In other words, the blade that gives the perfect shave for one user is not necessarily the perfect Razor Blade for another.

Proshave

We therefore recommend...

For the same reason, we always recommend that new users buy 3, 4 or even 5 different Razor Blades along with a Doube Edge Blade, so that you can try different blades with the Razor and see which one suits your skin and beard best. The blade you get the best experience with is the one you should get in the future

(Of course, you can experiment and have a few different leaves to switch between, as many users do, but it's definitely not necessary).

For this purpose, we have created a "Proshave Doube Edge Blade Samples Pack, 10 Razor Blades". This small set contains 10 different Razor Blades, so without having to buy Razor Blades for a small fortune, you have the opportunity to try some different blades and see which blades you prefer over others.

You can find the sample pack here

Frequently asked questions

"I've heard that Feather Razor Blades are too sharp and that only advanced users can use them?"

That's nonsense :-)

Feather blades are known to be sharp, but that doesn't mean you'll cut your ear off if you shake your hand ;-)As with any other DE blade in a Safety Razor, take it easy the first few times to get familiar with your new tool and the way the blade is exposed.

"Doesn't a Safety Razor Razor cut you a lot?"

NO! But you should take it easy at first and get to know your new Razor. And don't forget to read our guide to the ultimate shave.

Of course, you shouldn't move the Razor sideways across the skin (no matter which Safety Razor blade you use) or you'll get a tear. But you can do that with a Gillette Fusion blade too - you just get 6 tears instead of one :-)

Again, take it easy and get familiar with your new Razor. Let the weight of the Razor do the work and don't press it against your skin.
